How Mindset and Beliefs Shape your Health.. and a simple practice to help

I started working with a new client who does all the things - she eats a whole food diet, has very balanced blood sugars, drinks enough water, does strength training, takes all the right supplements and still she suffers from chronic mystery gut symptoms. When we started working on her beliefs and mindset she said, `I don't know where have you been all my life but I owe you a HUGE thank you for this one.´

It’s not just about the food.
It’s not just about the supplements.
It’s not even just about movement or rest.

With clients who have all the foundations of health dialed in, and I look at their food journal, health history form, labs and the data their body holds doesn’t show an obvious reason why they feel chronically unwell, I shift to what is less obvious and measureable but has a big impact on their health outcomes - their mindset and beliefs they have about their body.

The missing link in healing
—especially when it comes to chronic symptoms—is often mindset and beliefs we may have developed (which we are usually unaware and unconscious of) about our capacity to feel safe and well in our bodies.

In The Body Keeps Score, Bessel vander Kolks says:

Your body remembers everything your mind tries to move past.

When we go through significant stressor trauma—whether that’s a major life event or ongoing, low-level stress—our nervous system adapts in order to protect us. But sometimes, that protection gets “stuck.”Instead of returning to a calm, regulated state, the body can stay in patterns like:

  • Fight (tension, inflammation, irritability)

  • Flight (anxiety, restlessness, overactivity)

  • Freeze (fatigue, shutdown, brain fog)

Over time, this doesn’t just affect how you feel emotionally—it can impact physical systems in the body like: hormonal balance, digestion and gut health, immune system function, blood sugar balance, energy (mitochondria) health and sleep cycles.

If deep down you feel like your body is “broken,” “working against you,” or “never going to get better,” that message doesn’t just stay in your thoughts—it influences your nervous system, your stress response, and even how your body physically heals.

Lately I work with nearly 100% of my clients on mindset and beliefs they have in addition to interpreting their bodies data (functional gut or hormone testing I offer) and nutrition, supplement and lifestyle protocols. I usually do an EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) or ‘tapping’ practice clients can incorporate into their daily and weekly routines.

EFT is a mind-body tool combining acupressure or marma points in the body with cognitive behavioral therapy and nuerolinguistic reprogramming to look at beliefs we hold which lead to stress, anxiety, and sickness in our bodies. It involves tapping on energy meridians while focusing on issues to rewire emotional responses. Mindset work involves intentionally changing limiting beliefs to foster positive behavior, often using EFT to solidify these shifts

When we gently begin to shift from fear to safety and self-criticism to compassion, our body receives a completely different signal. When we acknowledge and give voice to the negative beliefs we have which are obstacles to healing and train the mind to search for what is working and feels good in the body, we change our mind and we change our body. Healing doesn’t come from forcing or fighting your body - it comes from creating an internal environment where your body feels safe enough to repair.

I’ve seen clients experience real shifts—not because they found the “perfect” diet, but because they changed the way they related to their symptoms.

They stopped asking:
“Why is my body doing this to me?”

And started asking:
“What is my body trying to communicate?”

That shift alone can be transformative.

So this month, I invite you to explore a simple question:

What do I currently believe about my body and my ability to heal?

And then, gently ask:
Is this belief helping me—or holding me back?

You don’t have to force a new belief overnight. Just becoming aware is the first step.

If this resonates with you, we can explore this deeper together—whether through nutrition work, yoga, or integrating nervous system support and EFT into your routine .
