Join me May 30- June5 as I return back to my first taste of the Greek islands - Crete! I first visited in 2014 and have led 3 retreats in another location and can´t wait to explore the northern part near the Venetian town of Chania.
Crete is the largest of the Greek Islands, but it never feels loud or overpopulated. An island rich in Minoan history, renowned for it rugged White Mountains, world-renowned Mediterranean beaches, quaint villages and diverse beaches, it is like 5 islands in one! The Chania region is famous for its 14th-century Venetian harbor, the long Samaria Gorge, and exotic beaches. Nestled on the western edge of the island lies the peaceful coastal town of Kissamos, a hidden gem known for its authenticity, warm hospitality, and unspoiled beauty. The town is home to ancient sites such as the archaeological site of Polirinia. The lively town center exudes a warm ambiance with its traditional tavernas serving delectable Cretan cuisine and cute local shops.
Our home for this retreat is the charming Kissamos Bay Hotel, perfectly situated right along the waterfront. Rooms are modern, light-filled and most offering private balconies. The surrounding area offers quiet beaches, olive groves stretching across rolling hills, and panoramic views of the sea and mountains. Just beyond Kissamos, you’ll find some of Crete’s most iconic natural wonders, including the turquoise lagoon of Balos Lagoon and the pink-hued sands of Elafonissi Beach—places that feel almost otherworldly in their beauty.
Daily schedule: Each morning, we begin with an yoga session to build strength and energize. A Breakfast is served at the hotel after morning yoga with Cretan cuisine, featuring fresh local fruits, creamy yogurt, honey, olives, cheeses, rustic breads, and seasonal specialties You have your day free to explore the local area by foot, rent the hotels snorkeling gear, hike the local area or if you have a car, drive to one of the local lagoons, beaches or hiking spots. Early evening, we will have a slower, stretch-oriented evening practice to wind down, relax and get bendy. :)
For dinner, we’ll gather together at a local taverna, experiencing the heart of Cretan culture. Dinner will offer a variety of traditional dishes, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian such as slow-cooked vegetables in olive oil, fresh salads with herbs and feta, grilled fish and meats, legumes, and local delicacies. Cretan cuisine is rooted in the Mediterranean diet—renowned for its health benefits—featuring high-quality olive oil, fresh ingredients, and a philosophy of mindful, communal eating.
