On DO OVERs...

I have never been a big video game fan, except for that brief period on my youth when Super Mario Brothers was popular…. Remember that game? Vivid scenes and likable characters.. I digress. In my brief foray into the world of gaming, I do recall the big flashing GAME OVER screen.. a second after you made some dumb error, failed to throw a fire ball or were somehow caught by your opponent. I always had a little remorse when that screen came up, as I recalled my last few moves that led to this blinking sign. And as I hit the PLAY AGAIN button, I was filled with hope that this time around, I would see better the terrain I was playing in and foresee how to play it a little better this time.

This analogy comes to mind as Fall starts to approach. Eeek. I want endless summer too. And am soooo appreciating all of the simple joys and luxuries that have transpired since we started reopening a few months back. Thanks to all of our collective efforts of distancing, mask wearing and conservative but joyful social engagements, our numbers here in Germany have remained steady and low. Thank you fellow citizens for acting like a caring yogi and following these much-needed rules to keep one another safe and healthy. :)

That said, it still seems a bit undeniable that we will have a second wave again come Fall. While I am hopeful that we can remain caring and diligent in protecting ourselves and others from this dreadful virus, it still seems that we may have some version of a PLAY AGAIN experience… Although I hope and pray it isn’t a full lock down (which I playfully call a forced retreat), it seems we may be spending more time indoors in the fall and early winter months again… much lighter and more focused on affected regions I hope, but less freedoms and more time indoors I think.

This has me thinking, if I had it to do over again, what would I do different?

What daily, weekly or regular habits did you put into place during your time inside that you are proud of? Regular dinners with the family? A more committed yoga practice? Regular walks in nature? Deeper connections with your family or partner? More thoughtful consumption? I appreciated a lot of these little gifts and insights myself. :)

I also felt like, even though I saw it coming closer and closer and a restricted life being more and more evident, I was unprepared for what my life would look like in the 6+ weeks inside. I am grateful and proud of some of the daily habits and insights I picked up, and there are also some things I wish the me of then would have known and planned for.

LIKE.. Running an Ayurveda course during that time. I always hear from clients that it is really hard to commit to a longer course because life can be so damn hectic a lot of the time. Work trips can call us out of town every week or month. Social commitments call our attention in this direction and that. It’s hard to find time to commit to focus on things that matter to us. It is hard to match our actions with our values and desires at time, isn’t it?

Come Fall, it appears we may have more time inside. To focus on things that matter to us. To commit to things that we say we value. And if you are reading my newsletter and go to my classes or retreats, I’m guessing you value your health - in the whole physical, mental and emotional sense. So maybe it’s time to put your proverbial money where your mouth is. What better time could there be to get your health on track then now? :)
