Creating Space..

She looked at her old life

one more time

took a deep breath and whispered

I will never see you again

Fall is always a changing time…. The weather precipitously drops, summer travel ends, new school years or work projects begin. We do the big, and often dreaded, shifting of light summer wear to warm, cozy fall and winter duds. I always appreciate this time because the external world is so obviously changing it feels like an invitation to do this ourselves. This happens on a superficial level and we clean and spruce up our living spaces, but something deeper shifts internally to allow for something new to arise. And this year is a big one.

At the risk of sounding like a yoga teacher, there are some pretty big shifts in energy happening these days, aren’t there? Many top thinkers opine that COVID will permanently change our world. And leave us as individuals permanently changed. Whether these are welcome, life-affirming choices or not is all in our perspective.. and guess who has control over that?? US! It’s always been us.

Big perspective shifts, big changes, life changes. Step by step.. I, for one, left teaching at the yoga center I was at for years, changed some relationships that weren’t working so well, and spent time fewer people, but those I care about the most. I upped my meditation practice and improved my concentration, mood, and sleep as a result. I was meaning to meditate more for so long. But there was never the time (i.e. always an excuse), until there was. :) Several of my friends had big shifts in their lives to, albeit in different directions.. A few founds the time and space to make babies with their loved ones. A few people decided to forgo city living and make a go of living in the country. COVID seemed to remove a lot of clutter that was blocking our sight, making what we really want a lot more apparent.

Several people who signed up for my Ayurveda + Habit Change course that starts Monday said this same thing… That the reasons, the clutter and confusion that filled their minds and their schedules seemed to free up and now seems to be the time to commit to having a healthy body and mind. If not now, when?? We have one body, in which we house our precious mind and spirit.
